My Buddies
I like working with my buddies from Room 1. We read books and learn apps for writing on the ipad. It is fun.I am holding Pango, the school mascot.
Preschool Tuakana- teina
We love to have the Preschool visit us . They have a story with us and we play together. We help them with things and show them where things are. They like coming to see us all in Room 2 as well.
PMP
We have Diane come and take PMP with us. She is from Flax Rock. We have fun and learn lots of different ways to move with our bodies. We get fit too. I like balancing on the pots best.
Ronald McDonald
Ronald McDonald came to talk to us about road safety. We knew the song about Stop Look and Listen as we had learnt that in class with Mrs Bennett. Ronald McDonald was funny. He lost his sock . We had to help him find it. He made Mrs Bennett disappear and then come back again but she was really just behind the screen. She jumped out and gave us a surprise. I laughed at Ronald McDonald and Mrs Bennett.

Prizegiving
Mohaka got an award at end of Term 3 assembly for improvement. He has worked hard all year and made lots of steps forward in his learning. He increased in all areas. Mohaka has improved 8 levels in reading this year. He also improved a lot in his maths, spelling, inquiry and story writing.( Mrs Bennett)
Whakapapa Mountain Snow Trip
and Tokaanu Hot Pools 19/9/13
I loved the snow trip. It was awesome. I went down the mountain on a sled with Paora and Shayden and Kiana and Whiore too. I liked swimming at the hot pools too. I went in both pools. ( Mohaka) Off we all went at 7am up to Wakapapa for the mountain snow trip. The kids and whanau and staff were all excited and we had a great time. I had 11 children go and 8 had not been to the snow before. They went down the mountain on sleds and a boogie board and threw snowballs. We then went to the Tokaanu hot pools where they swam for over an hour. What an awesome day.( Mrs Bennett)

School Production 29/8/13
Dynamo Dukebox
I liked dancing and singing. It was cool. Lots of people came to see us. ( Mohaka)
The tamariki were amazing. They danced and sang their way through nearly an hour of music from the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. Even the teachers line danced to Achy Breaky Heart and were zombies toMichael Jackson's Thriller. Miharo Roll n Rolled to music from the 1980's. They did I love Rock and Roll. The lion Sleeps Tonight and Dancing in the Street. What a wonderful performance. ( Mrs Bennett)
Disco 15/8
I loved the dancing.
We had lots of fun at the Disco. We dressed up and had glow lights. We danced and had games and competitions. We also had a sausage and a drink.

Matariki 1/7/13- 5/7/13
We had an amazing Matariki week at Riverslea school. We started Monday with a Dawn tree planting ceremony and whanau, school breakfast. Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day of Maori games with Bridge Pa school. That was lots of fun. Wednesday we helped prepare for the Hangi on Thursday. Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school. The children were amazing with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, lots of stalls and other schools and people and whanau visiting. We had Irongate, Whare Tapere, the Line Dancers, Karamu and singers and dancers. Waata was an amazing DJ with the Funkman and PK in charge of music and coordination, sound etc. The hangi was a highlight with 6-8 Dads, Koros and whanau helping out, as well as whanau such as Roberta and Karina with serving. Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc. What am amazing successful week. Ka mau te wihi ( Mrs Bennett).

Writing Sample
I wrote a story about when we went to Sk8zone. I went up and down the ramps fast. I watched the man going up and down the really big ramp. He was really fast.( Mohaka) Mohaka wrote 3 sentences attempting most of his own spelling. When I videoed him he told a story about Sk8zone in sequence. He talked about how he liked going on the scooters. Then he said that he had gone on the big ramp. He then had had lunch and after that went back on the scooter and he went back on the ramps. Mohaka is starting to write well independently. I will extend this by encouraging him to word solve or locate words that he needs as well as get him to plan his story and extend his ideas.( Mrs Bennett).

Maths Learning
I am learning about time.I know o'clock and half past ( Mohaka) I taught Mohaka about time. He is now able to find and draw o'clock and half past for all the numbers on the clock. He can read and match the time too. He is able to demonstrate his understanding on a time app on the ipad as well ( Mrs Bennett)

Town Library

I like reading books at the library. Mrs Bennett also read books to us ( Mohaka) Mohaka enjoyed looking through all the books in the children's section at the library. This visit showed him the books available at the library and he enjoyed listening to the books that I read as he sat there very quietly and listened the whole time ( Mrs Bennett)
Turangawaewae
I know about Turangawaewae. The bike track and the ipads and the playground are special at our place. We took lots of photos around the school of our special things. ( Mohaka) I led and guided an Inquiry about Turangawaewae. Mohaka was able to talk about what we did and found out and where to next. He can ask and answer questions about the Inquiry and also think about and develop ideas associated with Turangawaewae. ( Mrs Bennett)

Mohaka won the Sports award at the Term One Prizegiving assembly. He tried hard and participated well in all sports giving everything a his best shot. He did well in the school, swimming sports and Hakinakina sports. He also did well in improving his swimming skills and bike coordination and speed skills. He enjoyed Touch Rugby and Soccer and had fun at the Wet and wild days and the school triathalon.( Mrs Bennett)
Flax Rock
I like Flax Rock. I can climb up the wall really high ( Mohaka) I encouraged Mohaka to go as high as he did . The first time he nearly got half way. The second time with lots of cheering from me and the other children he nearly got to the top ( Mrs Bennett)

The Bike Track
I am getting good at riding my bike now. I can go fast on the track but have to slow down for the hills. I like going up the hill on the BMX track ( Mohaka) I knew that Mohaka's goal was to ride a bike really fast so I gave him lots of opportunities to practise and I encouraged him as well. He can now go around the bike track and the PUMP track quite fast and has lots of confidence now ( Mrs Bennett)
Swimming
I can put my head under the water all the time. I can kick and can go right across the pool. I am going to learn to swim properly next ( Mohaka) Mohaka is making good proress with his swimming skills. I have given him 1 to 1 tuition and he listens and applies the learning. He has increased a lot in water confidence too, ( Mrs Bennett)
